Jen and Katie will share ideas for lessons that use children's literature to connect to elementary music curriculum. Through these lessons, participants will gain activities for creative movement, introducing musical genres, vocal exploration, composition and improvisation, as well as activities for singing and instruments. The concepts shared will span from kindergarten up through fifth grade, and are sure to bring joy to any classroom.Â
Participants will leave with lesson plans as well as teaching slides, as well as new inspiration for addressing curricular objectives with children's literature.

Jennifer Bhooshan has been sharing her quirky love for music, kids, and education with K-4 students since 2005. She has completed her master’s level Orff Certification and was awarded Teacher of the Year for southwest Illinois in 2020. Jennifer specializes in teaching a wide variety of students including several self-contained classes of non-verbal students with Autism, self-contained classes of functional life skills, and mainstream blended classes with students with disabilities. Her favorite pastime is raising her beautiful and spicy daughter named Nora and she currently serves as the past president of the St. Louis Orff Chapter.Â
Katie Brown is a music specialist in St. Louis, where she teaches over 500 joyful musicians through general music classes, extracurricular choir and percussion club. She has completed her master level Orff Certification and an Orff Curriculum Development course. She is a past president of the St. Louis AOSA Chapter, and has presented workshops in many school districts in the St. Louis area, at the Missouri Music Educators Association State Conference, and at the AOSA National Conference. She was awarded Teacher of the Year for her school, as well as the Elementary Level Teacher of the Year for Rockwood School District for 2026-2027.
